We’ve made it, everyone: this is the top spot on our Best Jewels of 2016 countdown! (If you’ve missed any of the list, catch up over here!) Who will be the big winner…?

#1: Madeleine’s Tea Party

In February, Princess Madeleine of Sweden pulled off the very best bejeweled royal appearance of the year: attending a tea party for Swedish children dealing with medical issues, all while wearing full white-tie attire. The kids got a real-life princess in all her glory for this party!

Madeleine wore a look worthy of the Nobels (in fact, repeated from the 2015 Nobels!): the Swedish Aquamarine Kokoshnik and other pieces of diamond and aquamarine jewelry. She even donned her Order of the Seraphim sash and her father’s family order! Her daughter, Princess Leonore, also came along for the fun.

The aquamarine kokoshnik is one of my favorite tiaras, and Madeleine looks absolutely smashing in it, so this look would hit the top of my list on its own. But add in an event to celebrate kids who deserve a little extra brightness in their lives? How could I choose anything else??? (See the video from this event over here!)

#2: Mary’s Edwardian Tiara

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark gave us one of the best gifts of all in 2016: a new tiara! Technically, this is a piece we’d seen before — she wore it as a necklace in public for the first time in 2015.

But she didn’t wear the convertible piece on a tiara frame until March of this year. She selected the diamond, ruby, and spinel tiara for a banquet at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen. The tiara is an antique, made during the Edwardian period — hence the name I use for the tiara. (You can read all about the piece, including possibilities about its acquisition, over here!)

Mary wore the tiara for a second time during a state visit from Mexico, and she was photographed in it again for Vogue this summer. I just love a tiara debut!
