1908: Queen Alexandra of the United Kingdom took this photograph of the Duchess of Aosta (née Princess Hélène of Orléans) and the Princess of Wales (née Princess Mary of Teck). Both women had romances with Alexandra’s eldest son, the late Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale, known as “Eddy.” He fell in love with Hélène but was prevented from marrying her because she was a Catholic; before his sudden death, he was engaged to marry Mary.
