Floral Tiara Tournament: Week One Results!

I’ve got all the results from our first week of voting in the floral tiara tournament!

This match paired up two towering floral sparklers. Though the Hanoverian Floral Tiara brought in a very respectable 41.91% of the vote, the Braganza Tiara survived to the next round, winning with 58.09%.

These diamond tiaras both feature naturalistic floral sprays. The Spanish Floral Tiara ran away with this contest, winning with 67.4% of the vote, while 32.6% of you picked the Floral Birthday Tiara as the winner.

Would it be the flexible floral ornament or the classic floral bridal diadem? Though the Isenburg Floral Tiara was selected by 24.33% of voters, the Danish Floral Aigrette pulled off a commanding victory with 75.67% of the vote.

This was an extremely close contest! The Cubitt Tiara ultimately triumphed, winning with 50.78% of the vote, but the Savoy-Aosta Tiara finished right on its heels with 49.22%.

Two towering floral tiaras are matched up in this contest!

The Cubitt Tiara vs. The Savoy-Aosta Tiara

This naturalistic diamond floral spray tiara originally belonged to Sonia Keppel Cubitt, grandmother of the Duchess of Cornwall. The tiara is now worn often by the Duchess for gala occasions, and in 2006, it was worn by her daughter, Laura, as a bridal tiara.

This intricate, balanced diamond floral tiara originally belonged to a French princess, Anne d’Orleans, who married into the Italian royal family. The piece was inherited by Anne’s daughter, Princess Margherita of Savoy, who passed it along to her eldest son, Prince Lorenz. He became a Prince of Belgium through his marriage to Princess Astrid, who is now the primary wearer of the tiara. You’ll often spot Astrid wearing this one at state banquets and royal weddings.

Some believe that this incredible, flexible floral ornament originally belonged to Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna of Russia, grandmother of King Frederik IX. We know for sure, though, that in the 1960s it belonged to a famous Danish-American tenor, Lauritz Melchior. He sold it to King Frederik in 1963, and it’s been sparkling on the heads of Queen Ingrid and Queen Margrethe II ever since. Queen Margrethe is especially inventive in the ways she wears the three-sectioned tiara.

The family tiara of a relatively minor German princely family, this naturalistic diamond floral sparkler came into the spotlight when it was worn by two family brides: Katharina, who married Archduke Martin of Austria-Este (brother of Prince Lorenz of Belgium), and Sophie, who married Prince Georg Friedrich of Prussia.
