Scandi Sparkler Spectacular: Week Five Results!

The results are in from this week’s tiara contests!

Desiree Clary’s rubies continue to crush the competition! Though the Alexandrine Diamond Drop Tiara was selected by 22.24% of voters, the Danish Ruby Parure Tiara was the winner with 77.76% of the vote.

Longevity triumphed in this contest as well. The Danish Emerald Parure Tiara won with 75.53% of the vote, while Princess Dagmar’s Floral Tiara brought in 24.47% of votes.

This one was a diamond showdown! Ultimately, it was the Danish Floral Aigrette that took home the victory with 78.73% of the vote, while 21.27% of voters selected the Baden Palmette Tiara.

This contest pitted heirloom pearls against a “new” antique sparkler. Though Crown Princess Mary’s Edwardian Tiara was chosen by 29.15% of voters, the Pearl Poire Tiara won the day with 70.85% of the vote.

Diamonds or amethysts? You chose Queen Josefina’s Diamond Tiara to win this round, with 72.63% to the Norwegian Amethyst Parure Tiara’s 27.37%

This was a Queen Maud match-up! This was a close one. Though Queen Maud’s Diamond Tiara brought in an impressive 44.66% of your votes, 55.34% selected Queen Maud’s Pearl Tiara as this round’s winner.

Our only upset of the week! The Vasa Tiara brought home an underdog victory with 57.87% of the vote, while 42.13% of you chose Queen Alexandra’s Turquoise Tiara.

It was fun while it lasted, Cinderella #1! The Norwegian Emerald Parure Tiara dominated this round, defeating King Olav’s Gift Tiara with a vote of 89.31% to 10.69%.

Our final contest of the week matches up old and new!

This delicate pearl and diamond tiara has a sentimental story: it was Princess Martha Louise of Norway’s eighteenth-birthday gift from her beloved grandfather, King Olav V. The little sparkler features a natural design — blades of grass or sheaves of wheat — and has remained Martha Louise’s primary tiara for more than three decades.

The most historic set of jewelry in the Norwegian vaults, this diamond and emerald parure has its roots in the earliest part of the nineteenth century. They were handed down from Princess Augusta, Duchess of Leuchtenberg, to her daughter, Empress Amelie of Brazil. She in turn bequeathed the set to her sister, Queen Josefina of Sweden and Norway, who left them to her daughter-in-law, Queen Sofia of Sweden. In 1931, Sofia passed the emeralds down to her own daughter-in-law, Princess Ingeborg of Sweden. She gave them to her daughter, Crown Princess Martha of Norway, to use as an insurance policy during her World War II exile. Happily, the family survived the war, and the emeralds remain with the main branch today, worn exuberantly by Queen Sonja.

This small but dazzling diamond tiara was a wedding gift from the city of Stockholm to Princess Martha of Sweden on her marriage to the future King Olav V of Norway in 1929. The tiara’s name comes from Martha’s royal heritage from the old Vasa dynasty of Sweden. The tiara was subsequently worn by both of the current king’s sisters. It belongs to Princess Astrid, who has indicated that it will remain with the royal family after her eventual death — hopefully a very long time from now!

This delicate diamond and turquoise tiara is part of a parure inspired by traditional design elements from India. It originally belonged to Queen Alexandra of the United Kingdom, who bequeathed it to her daughter, Queen Maud of Norway, in 1925. Today, it belongs to Maud’s granddaughter, Princess Astrid, who wears it often and intends to will it back to the main collection of the family one day.
