We’re wrapping up our monthly look back at the jewels of Sweden’s royal weddings with the family’s most recent nuptials. Prince Carl Philip married Sofia Hellqvist in June 2015, and today, we’ve got a look at their romantic wedding waltz — in motion! (Please note: some of these GIFs feature flash photography.)
The wedding waltz is a tradition in many royal families, but we generally only get to see the dances from Swedish and Danish royal weddings
Luckily, the Swedish television airing of this wedding included the waltz at the very end of the broadcast
The dance showed off Sofia’s wedding gown, which was made by a Swedish designer, Ida Sjöstedt
Close-ups from the dance footage also let us see her sparkling Emerald Palmette Tiara, which was a wedding gift from her new parents-in-law; she’s also wearing Bernadotte family earrings, which were made from a stomacher that belonged to Queen Josefina
As the dance continued, the couple’s parents joined in
And then Sofia beckoned the rest of the crowd to join in, too
Queen Silvia, mother of the groom, sparkled in the Leuchtenberg Sapphire Tiara
And the groom’s sister, Crown Princess Victoria, glittered in the Connaught Diamond Tiara
As Sofia turns here, you can spot the traditional sprig of myrtle tucked into her hair
Here’s a view of some of the rest of the royals dancing, including Queen Sonja of Norway and Tord Magnuson, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, and Princess Martha Louise of Norway and Ari Behn
Even amid all of the grandeur of the royal wedding, the couple were focused on each other
