Diamond Tiara Tournament: Week Nine Results!

We’ve got all the results from this week’s tiara tournament voting!

Two sparkling tiaras with Danish royal connections were matched up in this competition! Though the Danish Floral Aigrette brought in 37.77% of the vote, Queen Alexandra’s Kokoshnik won the day with 62.23%.

The Vladimir looked poised to triumph even without its drops, but it finally met its match this round! The Stuart Tiara was triumphant with 68.69% of the vote, while 31.31% of you chose the Vlad.

This one was a floral tiara face-off! Though the Brabant Laurel Wreath Tiara was selected by 39.3% of voters, the Imperial Chrysanthemum Tiara was the winner, bringing in 60.7%.

Our final round of the week featured two elaborate diamond sparklers! While Queen Sophie’s Diamond Tiara was selected by 31.32% of you, the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara won yet again with 68.68% of the vote.

It’s time for our final contest of the week—and it’s a doozy!

The Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara vs. Queen Sophie’s Diamond Tiara

One of the most classic and beautiful tiaras in the British collection, Queen Mary received this one as a wedding present in 1893. And although it is an all-diamond tiara today, it was originally topped by fourteen large pearls. Mary later had those pearls replaced with diamonds and used the pearls on her new Lover’s Knot Tiara. Mary gave the tiara to her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II, as a wedding present, and it’s still one of the Queen’s most-worn tiaras today.

The first owner of this large, intricate diamond tiara was Queen Sophie of the Hellenes, who was born Princess Sophie of Prussia. The piece is an intriguing combination of modern and traditional styles. Many of the stones are large, rectangular diamonds. But those stones are nestled within more traditional floral designs. The tiara was later worn by Sophie’s daughter-in-law, Queen Friederike, and was most recently spotted on Crown Princess Marie-Chantal.
