Today, the Princess Royal celebrates her birthday, and to mark the occasion, I’ve compiled a list of ten of her very best pieces of jewelry. Anne’s collection is much bigger than this, so be sure to add your own list in the comments below!

10. The Modern Ruby Set: This suite of jewels, which includes a necklace and coordinating earrings, may have been a Saudi gift; she wore the set at Claridge’s during the Saudi Arabian state visit in 1987. Above, she wears the jewels for the annual Festival of Trees Gala at the Natural History Museum in London in December 2004.

9. The Aquamarine Suite: Anne owns numerous pieces of jewelry set with aquamarines, including the unusual Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara, which was made by Cartier for the Queen Mother. Here, in a photo from a Buckingham Palace garden party in 2014, Anne wears a diamond and aquamarine pendant on a single-stranded pearl necklace, pairing it with the brooch that used to be the central element of the Pineflower Tiara.

8. The Three-Stranded Pearl Necklace: Anne’s collection includes many pearl necklaces and chokers, but one of the most impressive and classic is this creamy, balanced three-stranded necklace. Above, Anne wears it to deliver remarks at the British Olympic Association’s Gold Ball in October 2005.

7. The Turquoise and Pearl Necklace: This unusual necklace of turquoises and seed pearls, worn above by Anne on Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot in June 2007, was given to her mother, Queen Elizabeth II, by the President of Pakistan in 1971. Anne has been wearing this piece in public since the 1970s.

6. The Diamond Ribbon and Festoon Necklace: This elaborate necklace was described by Leslie Field as “an antique diamond festoon necklace with ribbons and bows, and pendant drops.” Anne received the necklace as an 18th birthday present from her parents, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, along with a pair of coordinating earrings. 5. The Diamond Ribbon and Tassel Brooch: This diamond brooch, which Anne often pairs with her festoon necklace and tiara, was Anne’s wedding gift from her elder brother, the Prince of Wales, in 1973. The piece features a stylized ribbon bow with two pendant tassels.

4. The Diamond Festoon Tiara: Presented to Anne when she christened a ship in the 1970s, this romantic diamond tiara has been one of the workhorses of Anne’s collection. It was also a perfect bridal diadem when Anne loaned it to her daughter-in-law, Autumn Phillips, in 2008. Above, Anne wears it during the Spanish state visit of July 2017. 3. Princess Anne’s Albert Brooch: Paired here with one of her gorgeous diamond necklaces, Princess Anne’s diamond and sapphire cluster brooch is thought to be one of the Albert brooches, copies supposedly made of the famous brooch for Victoria and Albert’s daughters. Anne wears the brooch for both day and evening occasions; above, she wears it for a banquet in Dubai in December 1984. (More about the brooch over here!)
2. Princess Andrew’s Meander Bandeau: This striking tiara originally belonged to Anne’s paternal grandmother, Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark. Since then, it’s been owned by two subsequent generations: Queen Elizabeth II (1947) and Princess Anne (1968). The tiara stretched to a fourth generation of the family in 2011, when it was worn by Anne’s daughter, Zara Phillips, as a wedding tiara. 1. Empress Marie Feodorovna’s Sapphire and Pearl Choker: One of the most important pieces in Anne’s jewelry box, without a doubt, is this pearl choker necklace with its elaborate diamond and sapphire clasp. The necklace was originally owned by Empress Marie Feodorovna of Russia; Queen Mary bought it from her estate sale at Hennels in London. And it doesn’t just have an amazing provenance — it’s also convertible, transforming into a brooch and a pair of bracelets.
