St. Patrick’s Day Jewels for Kate

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are due to arrive in Paris shortly for a two-day visit, but before heading out of Britain, they made a stop at Cavalry Barracks in Hounslow to hand out shamrocks to the Irish Guards.

William was appointed Colonel of the Irish Guards shortly before his wedding in 2011. He and Kate have made several St. Patrick’s Day appearances in the years since to distribute shamrocks, and Kate always wears the same brooch: the gold and emerald shamrock brooch on loan to her from the regiment. The brooch was previously worn by the Queen Mother and the Princess Royal.
This year, Kate paired the brooch with the Siren Wire Earrings by Monica Vinader, which are set with green onyx. She debuted the pair during the Canadian tour last autumn. (See close-ups of the earrings over here!)

Here’s a better look at the brooch. In this close-up, from the Cambridges’ visit to Northern Ireland in June 2016, you can see that the brooch is textured, not smooth. (See how she styled the brooch on this occasion over here!)

The human members of the Irish Guards weren’t the only ones who received shamrocks. Kate also got to present shamrocks to the regiment’s mascot, an Irish Wolfhound named Domhnall.
