Charles and Camilla’s Northern Ireland Visit: Day 1

While lots of royals were in Norway toasting King Harald and Queen Sonja yesterday, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall headed to Northern Ireland for the first day of a two-day visit.

For the daytime engagements, which included a visit to the new Seamus Heaney center in Bellaghy, Camilla wore her diamond and pearl drop earrings with her paired dragonfly brooches. One is set with diamonds, the other with sapphires.

Charles and Camilla attended a performance during their visit to the center; in a moment you couldn’t make up if you tried, a crown apparently fell off one of the actors’ heads and rolled to rest at their feet. (I love their expressions here.)

Last night, the couple traveled to Hillsborough Castle for a “Music and Words for a Spring Evening” performance.

Camilla wore her turquoise and diamond earrings, plus one of her signature pearl choker necklaces. For this event, she chose the four-stranded necklace with the round diamond clasp.

Time for the second installment of tiaras from King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway’s birthday dinner! Enjoy — and don’t forget to stop by tomorrow for the second (black-tie) gala event of the celebrations!

Queen Mathilde of the Belgians wore the Wolfers Tiara with diamond and pearl earrings and her large diamond and pearl brooch.

The tiara and the earrings are both from the jewelry collection of the late Queen Fabiola.

Mathilde, who wore the sash of the Order of St. Olav, was escorted by Prince Carl Philip of Sweden at the dinner.

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands was stunning in sapphires, including the full Sapphire Parure Tiara and the large ribbon brooch with the sapphire center element.

On her right wrist, she wore one of the large sapphire and diamond bracelets.

Maxima’s gown was previously seen during a Prinsjesdag appearance. This time, she wore the sash of the Order of St. Olav with the dress. She was escorted by Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg.

With the grand Wurttemberg Ornate Pearl Tiara, Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands wore a pearl necklace with a suite of pearl and diamond cluster jewels: earrings, brooch, bracelet, and ring.

Beatrix, who was escorted by Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, wore the sash of the Order of St. Olav.

Beatrix’s daughter-in-law, Princess Mabel, wore the family’s Pearl Button Tiara with pearl earrings. (I suppose this means that Maxima’s wedding tiara must have been removed from the palace exhibition? The two pieces share the same base.)

Mabel wore no orders, but she pinned a diamond and pearl brooch to the waist of her gown.

The Belgian Scroll Tiara was Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg’s choice for the dinner. She paired the tiara with diamond and pearl drop earrings.

She also wore a pearl bracelet with a diamond clasp.

The sash of the Order of St. Olav was just visible under Maria Teresa’s pink jacket. She was escorted by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.

Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie of Luxembourg wore diamonds and sapphires, including Grand Duchess Adelaide’s Tiara. Her necklace can also be worn on a tiara frame.

Stephanie, who was escorted by Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands, has no Norwegian orders, so she wore the sash of her highest Luxembourgish order: the Order of Adolphe of Nassau.

Queen Anne-Marie, the former queen consort of Greece, wore the family’s impressive ruby parure. For the dinner, she removed the pendant sections from the necklace.

Anne-Marie has no Norwegian orders, so she wore the sash of her highest Greek order, the Order of the Redeemer. (The sash was nearly swallowed up by that giant rose! Eek!)

Queen Anne-Marie’s daughter-in-law, Princess Marie-Chantal, wore the diamond fringe tiara that reportedly came from her mother. She also accessorized with sparkling button-style earrings and an intriguing brooch with a military theme.

Marie-Chantal has no Norwegian orders, so she wore the sash of her highest Greek royal order, the Order of Saints Olga and Sophia.

Princess Tatiana of Greece and Denmark borrowed her mother-in-law’s Antique Corsage Tiara, pairing it with the same pearl and diamond earrings that she wore on her wedding day.

Like Marie-Chantal, Tatiana also wore the sash of her highest Greek royal order: the Order of Saints Olga and Sophia.

The Countess of Wessex wore her convertible diamond and aquamarine tiara with a coordinating pendant necklace.

Sophie, who was escorted by the President of Iceland, has no Norwegian orders, so she wore the sash of her highest British order, the Royal Victorian Order. She also wore her mother-in-law’s family order.

One more British guest was in attendance: Lady Elizabeth Shakerley. Her parents were Viscount Anson and Anne Bowes-Lyon, a niece of the Queen Mother. Elizabeth’s mother became Princess Anne of Denmark when she married her second husband, Prince George of Denmark. George was a first cousin of King Harald V of Norway.

The diamond tiara that Elizabeth wears here belonged to her mother. Elizabeth wore it on her wedding day, and she’s also worn it at subsequent royal events.

Here’s another of King Harald’s maternal cousins: Madeleine Kogevinas, the daughter of Harald’s uncle, Count Carl Bernadotte. She was born Countess Madeleine Bernadotte. She’s worn this diamond and pearl floral tiara at previous royal events, including the wedding of Crown princess Victoria of Sweden; here she wears it with a long diamond pendant necklace.

And one more tiara-wearer: Desiree Kogevinas, Madeleine’s daughter. She wore a dramatic golden bandeau low across her forehead, making her look like a combination of a Greek goddess and a comic book superhero!
