It’s Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot, magpies! Time to enjoy the hats and jewels we saw on the third day of this year’s races.

The Queen chose her small cluster brooch with the pink central gemstone, pinning it to a bright pink jacket. I’ve seen the gemstone described variously as pink topaz or pink sapphire; I don’t think we’ve had confirmation on the precise stone.

Because the Duke of Edinburgh is still recovering (though home from the hospital), the Queen was accompanied in her carriage by her second son, the Duke of York.

As usual, both of the York princesses were in attendance for Ladies’ Day, too. And also as usual, Princess Beatrice wore no jewelry with her ensemble. Rather than continue to wonder why she doesn’t wear jewels, let’s play a new game: what jewelry would you wear with this outfit and hat?

Princess Eugenie went minimal with her jewelry, also as expected, donning her usual combination of bracelets and rings.

The Countess of Wessex (chatting here with the Earl of Snowdon) wore her Dior brooch and earrings made of crystals and resin beads.

The Princess Royal (who is definitely judging you in this photo!) wore a very flattering shade of green for the races on Thursday, accessorizing with a pearl necklace, gold and pearl earrings, a gold bangle, and a brooch in the shape of a seahorse.

Zara Tindall was present for the races today, too — she wore a pair of small silver hoop earrings (from her own jewelry collection, I believe) with her watch and rings.
Charlene Makes a Cross Statement in Monte Carlo

For the last few years, royal women have favored major statement earrings as their primary eye-catching jewelry. But for this weekend’s 57th annual Monte Carlo TV Festival, Princess Charlene of Monaco chose to make a statement with a major necklace instead.

With a striking red gown, Charlene posed with actors from the world of television (including Matt Bomer and Anthony Anderson) wearing a beaded cross necklace. In some photos, the beads look pearly, but I’m not sure whether they’re actually pearls.

The long necklace took center stage in Charlene’s ensemble, but she also wore a small pair of coordinating pearl stud earrings.

And she added a rather chaotic ring to her right hand.

Here’s a look at the entire dress. What do you think of Charlene’s statement jewelry choice for the event?
