Royal Ascot wrapped up this morning with one more appearance from the Queen — and a brooch we haven’t seen in a while!

The Queen was accompanied again in the carriage procession by her second son, the Duke of York.

She chose a diamond floral brooch from her collection. The brooch, which she acquired some time over the last decade, features six flowers with yellow centers.

National Day Jewels in Luxembourg

The grand ducal family of Luxembourg has been out and about at the end of this week to celebrate the country’s national day. Here’s a look at some of the jewels we saw, for both the daytime and evening engagements.

Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa were in Luxembourg City for Thursday’s celebrations. Maria Teresa chose pearl drop earrings and a very sparkly right-hand ring for the occasion.

Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie focused their attentions on Thursday in Esch-sur-Alzette.

Stephanie wore golden jewels with her bright red dress, including statement earrings and a necklace with a five-petaled flower charm slide.

Clearly the crowd likes their future grand duchess; here’s a trio of little girls who wore Stephanie masks, complete with the Grand Duchess Adelaide Tiara!

On Friday, both Maria Teresa and Stephanie wore red for the annual Te Deum mass. Maria Teresa again accessorized with pearl drop earrings, while Stephanie wore earrings that coordinated with the bejeweled neckline of her dress.

Stephanie wore orange for additional events during the morning.

And the tiaras came out on Friday evening! Maria Teresa wore the Belgian Scroll Tiara, while Stephanie wore the family’s amethyst bandeau. The Chaumet Emerald Tiara

Grand Duchess Charlotte wears the Chaumet Emerald Tiara, ca. 1920

Not all royal families have a tiara in their collections that’s fit for a superhero, but I think Wonder Woman could borrow the Art Deco-style emerald tiara from Luxembourg in a heartbeat. (I assume superheros attend more white-tie events than we mere mortals do, of course. Can you tell I saw the new Wonder Woman film this week?)

The tiara, which was made by Chaumet, is a quintessential Art Deco piece. Its intricate diamond scroll work is interrupted by an absolutely enormous cabochon emerald at the center of the tiara, which is anchored by a large square-cut diamond. From afar, it takes on a rather solid appearance, but up close, you can see how complicated the design actually is.

The first Luxembourg royal pictured in the tiara was Grand Duchess Charlotte, the grandmother of the current grand duke; it’s possible that the piece was a gift to Charlotte from her husband, Prince Félix. Charlotte sometimes supplemented the base of the tiara with extra diamonds, making the piece slightly taller. Charlotte’s daughter-in-law, Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte, was also photographed in the tiara.

But the current grand duchess, Maria Teresa, is the one who has gotten the most use out of the tiara. She wears the piece regularly at events both in Luxembourg and abroad and, I assume, while she’s secretly saving the world.
