Spanish State Visit Jewels: Westminster Abbey Visit

The second day of the Spanish state visit to the United Kingdom began with a visit to Westminster Abbey. King Felipe and Queen Letizia were accompanied by Prince Harry for the engagement.

Felipe and Letizia laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in the Abbey. It’s fitting that Harry would accompany them for this particular part of the state visit, as his role in the royal family is increasingly connected to support and recognition of both serving and veteran members of the armed forces. (Today’s engagement, plus last night’s appearance at the state banquet, mark Harry’s first involvement in a state visit.)

For the occasion, Queen Letizia wore a pair of diamond and turquoise statement earrings with a floral skirt from one of her favorite designers, Carolina Herrera.

The earrings are another pair borrowed from her mother-in-law, Queen Sofia. I don’t believe we know the provenance of these, but Sofia has worn them in the past with a coordinating turquoise and diamond necklace.
