Jewels of Monaco’s National Day 2020

 

On Thursday, the Grimaldis of Monaco gathered to celebrate the principality’s national holiday, and understated, elegant jewels were on show for the occasion.

The day of celebrations began with a traditional mass at the cathedral in Monaco. Changes to the usual festivities have been made this year as part of continuing pandemic precautions, including reducing the number of guests in the church and requiring face coverings.

Several members of the princely family attended the mass, led by Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene.

Princess Charlene wore classic diamond and pearl drop earrings for the morning’s events, as well as an additional diamond stud earring.

She wore sheer black gloves, with a modern pearl ring visible on her right hand.

Back at the Palais Princier, the annual parade was canceled, but the family still made an appearance outside before gathered police and military personnel, as well as representatives of organizations like the Red Cross.

The littlest Grimaldis, Princess Gabriella and Hereditary Prince Jacques, appeared outside the palace with their parents.

Jacques, who is the heir to the throne of Monaco, even gave a smart salute in his little miniature uniform.

Princess Caroline, elder sister of Prince Albert II, made an appearance in elegant pearl drop earrings. Love the way she’s letting her silver hair grow in — very distinguished!

Here’s a closer look at the earrings, which have an interesting stud portion. (You’ll also spot the patriotic symbol on her mask — most of the members of the family wore masks with special Monegasque symbols for the occasion.)

There were some notable absences from this year’s celebrations — Princess Stephanie, Charlotte Casiraghi, Pauline Ducruet, Camille Gottlieb — but many of the members of the extended Grimaldi clan were on hand for the holiday.

Andrea Casiraghi’s wife, Tatiana Santo Domingo, wore several earrings, including a pair of pave-set hoops.

She also pinned a vintage-looking diamond brooch to the lapel of her coat.

Pierre Casiraghi attended with his wife, Beatrice Borromeo, and their sons, Stefano and Francesco.

Beatrice accessorized with a bangle bracelet and a modern pair of earrings.

Princess Alexandra of Hanover, Princess Caroline’s younger daughter, was ultra elegant in minimal jewelry for the celebrations.

Princess Stephanie’s branch of the family was represented by her son, Louis Ducruet, and his wife, Marie Chevallier.

You’ll be able to spot a few more family members from Princess Antoinette’s branch of the Grimaldis in the second row as well. Behind Pierre Casiraghi, you’ll see Jean-Léonard Taubert-Natta de Massy and Mélanie-Antoinette Costello de Massy, the son and daughter of the late Elisabeth-Anne de Massy (daughter of Princess Antoinette).

And behind Princess Alexandra, you’ll see Sébastien Knecht de Massy with his wife, Donatella, and their daughters. He is the only son of the late Christine Alix de Massy (also a daughter of Princess Antoinette). Interestingly, Sébastien is also a descendant of the Kelly family; his father, Charles Knecht, was a great-nephew of John B. Kelly, Sr. (father of Princess Grace).
