This week, the Belgian royal family celebrated the country’s National Day — and wore some interesting pieces of jewelry along the way!

On July 15, the celebrations began with a concert at the Bozar Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels.

Queen Mathilde has been the first royal to really embrace the “masks as fashion” philosophy. She continued that trend at the concert, coordinating her mask with her bright pink gown.

The royal family removed their masks briefly for a (socially distanced) formal photograph before the concert. Here’s a closer look at Mathilde’s jewelry — a coordinated set of beaded earrings and a necklace — from that photo opportunity.

Prince Laurent, Prince Lorenz, and Princess Astrid also attended the concert. Here’s Astrid’s Gucci ensemble and sparkling pendant drop earrings from the formal photo moment.

Belgium’s National Day is celebrated every year on July 21, the anniversary of the day when King Leopold I took the oath and became the first monarch of the new independent country. On Tuesday, the royal family began their observance of the day by attending a Te Deum service at the Cathedral of Saint Michael and Saint Gudula in Brussels. This year, the service began with three minutes of silence and the coordinated ringing of bells across the country in memory of those who have lost their lives to the coronavirus pandemic.

Those gathered inside the cathedral for the service included King Philippe, Queen Mathilde, and their four children: Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant; Prince Gabriel; Prince Emmanuel; and Princess Eleonore. Prime Minister Sophie Wilmes was also in attendance.

Queen Mathilde chose a navy dress with a lace-like ivory pattern for the church service.

She paired the dress with a large hat by Fabienne Delvigne and a coordinating mask. She also wore a pair of her signature gold earrings.

Princess Elisabeth wore a summery floral dress for the service that featured bright pops of orange.

Like her mother’s hat, her headpiece was made by Fabienne Delvigne. Also like Mathilde, Elisabeth wore a pair of bright yellow gold earrings. Elisabeth’s feature a rosette-style design. (Thanks to Wim Dehandschutter for helping identify some of the details!)
Later in the day on Tuesday, the royals gathered again for the annual National Day Parade, held outside the Royal Palace in Brussels.
Queen Mathilde changed into a second outfit for the parade: a bright floral dress (and mask!) by Dries Van Noten and another Fabienne Delvigne hat. She also wore a pair of lovely earrings with pale pink gemstone drops.
Princess Elisabeth wore the same dress and headpiece but changed out her earrings, swapping them for a different pair of gold button-style earrings. (Also note her carefully coordinated mask! Lovely!)
Princess Astrid, Prince Lorenz, and Prince Laurent were all on hand for the parade as well. Here’s a look at Astrid, who wore diamond and pearl drop earrings for the occasion.
