The Cullinan VI and VIII Brooch vs. The Sapphire Chrysanthemum Brooch

This dazzling brooch, which is extremely similar in design to the Cullinan V, features two stones cut from the famous diamond: the Cullinan VI, which is the marquise-shaped pendant, and the Cullinan VIII, which is set in the middle of the top portion of the brooch. This delicate brooch is worn more rarely than its Cullinan V counterpart, but the Queen occasionally brings it out for palace receptions.

This brooch is a rare piece from the Queen’s collection that dates from before either her wedding or her accession to the throne; she received it in 1946 when she launched an oil tanker, appropriately named the British Princess. She famously wore it for her portraits taken during her honeymoon in 1947, and it has been a mainstay in her jewelry collection ever since.
