This Week in Royal Birthday Tiaras: May 25-31

Just like last week, our royal jewel bounty is so great that we need to break our weekly review in two! This countdown features my ten favorite tiaras from Saturday’s birthday celebrations in Copenhagen. 10. Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, daughter of Princess Benedikte of Denmark, borrowed the all-diamond version of her mother’s Floral Birthday Tiara for her cousin’s birthday gala. (More on the tiara over here!)

9. The unusual Naasut Tiara, a golden gift from Greenland, was Queen Margrethe II of Denmark’s choice to celebrate her elder son’s 50th birthday. (More on the tiara over here!)

8. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark chose her Edwardian-era tiara of diamonds, spinels, and rubies, plus the earrings she had made to match it, for her husband’s birthday gala. (More on the tiara over here!)

7. The grand Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg Fringe Tiara was Princess Benedikte’s choice to celebrate her nephew’s big birthday. (More on the tiara here!)

6. Also in a fabulous fringe — the Habsburg Fringe Tiara — was Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein. (More on this Austrian heirloom over here!)

5. Countess Alexandra of Frederiksborg brought out the delicate Alexandrine Diamond Drop Tiara for her former brother-in-law’s birthday party. (More on the tiara here!)

4. The magnificent Ancona Tiara accompanied Camilla of Bourbon-Two Sicilies to the birthday party in Copenhagen. (More on the tiara here!)

3. Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Crown Prince Frederik’s aunt, brought one of the most important family jewels — the Khedive of Egypt Tiara — to the birthday gala. (More on the tiara here!)

2. The King Edward VII Ruby Tiara made a rare appearance at the gala, perched on the head of Queen Silvia of Sweden. (More on this family sparkler over here!)

1. But my top tiara vote of the week undoubtedly goes to a newcomer, Maria-Olympia of Greece and Denmark, who made her tiara debut in the Miller Fringe Tiara at her cousin’s birthday party. (More on the tiara here!)
