Here in America, today is Thanksgiving, our annual festival of kindness, togetherness, giant balloon parades, football games, and overeating. To celebrate, I thought it was only fitting to bring a long-standing holiday tradition to the blog: going around the dinner table and telling everyone what we’re thankful for. I’ll start!
I’m thankful … that the Nobel Prize Ceremony is coming up in a few weeks, with all its glittering splendor.
I’m thankful … that the Queen’s been opening the royal vaults to Kate, letting us see two rarely-worn pairs of pearl earrings and a pair of diamond earrings recently.
I’m thankful … for royal tours, like the Cambridge visit to Canada and the Dutch trip Down Under, that let royal ladies break out lots of bejeweled treasures.
I’m thankful … that we’ve got rumors of yet another British royal wedding in the eventual future. (No hurry, Harry, but when you’re ready, bring on the tiaras!)
I’m thankful … for shows like Victoria and The Crown that let me scrutinize and analyze replica jewels like a slightly-obsessed and overly-specialized detective.
I’m thankful … for all of you who read the blog every day, write such thoughtful and intelligent comments, and send me e-mails letting me know that you’re enjoying the blog. I love producing The Court Jeweller because I love royal jewelry, but I love it even more because all of you get such joy out of it, too! Thanks to all of you!
What are you thankful for this year, magpies? And since our Thanksgiving dinner is also white-tie (naturally), what bejeweled treasures are you wearing this year?
