Godmother of Europe: Crown Princess Victoria’s Christening Jewels

Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom may have been the Grandmother of Europe, but her great-great-great-granddaughter, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, is often called the “Godmother of Europe.” She’s been chosen as a godmother of more than fifteen children, three of whom are expected to reign as monarch in their respective countries one day. Here’s a look at the jewelry she’s worn at a few of her godchildren’s royal christenings.

April 17, 2004: Victoria wears diamond and pearl cluster earrings at the christening of her goddaughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, daughter of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit

June 12, 2004: Victoria wears her pearl and diamond cluster earrings, plus a twisted, multi-stranded necklace of multicolored seed pearls, at the christening of her goddaughter, Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands (now the Princess of Orange), daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima

January 21, 2006: Victoria wears a diamond and metallic necklace and bracelet suite (and no earrings!) at the christening of her godson, Prince Christian of Denmark, son of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary

June 14, 2008: Victoria wears her pearl and diamond cluster earrings and a silver wristwatch at the christening of her goddaughter, Princess Eleonore of Belgium, daughter of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde

June 8, 2014: Victoria wears diamond and white gold earrings by Kreuger and silver bracelets at the christening of her goddaughter (and niece), Princess Leonore of Sweden, daughter of Princess Madeleine and Christopher O’Neill
